Working with Circles continued.

Following on with the theme of circles that we have been working with at Blank Canvas for a few terms

 I have been photographing circular forms and using them in other art works.
Walking along the Harbour arm in Margate, there were circles in the stones, on the walls, and as part of signs and structures.

 The weathered stumps of iron railings looked like metal nests for some strange mechanical birds.

The sunsets we have here in Margate, continue to inspire and gather groups of people to photograph them, or sit and simply enjoy the show.

Dreamland continues with it's restoration of the site and buildings and here the big wheel was lit up for an arts event.

Out of the Blue exhibition at the Pie Factory Margate

 

I went down to The Pie Factory on Sunday to see Out of the Blue, an exhibition by Sally Higgs and Deborah Crofts.

The Pie Factory is a really good space, website here in the old town close to the sea and the Turner Contemporary Gallery.

Sally and Deborah have used the space well, filling the rooms with colour. They were both at the gallery when I went along so it was good to talk to them.

Both artists have a love of the sky, clouds and sea, the fleeting moments and changes in light that we have in Britain.  They also both have studios in Folkestone's creative quarter and I was pleased to hear that the area is developing well.

Deborah was showing a range of work including pieces with bold shapes and colour that seem to take a moment and distill it into an essence.

I really enjoyed looking at the work and meeting other artists who are interested in the same subject matters as I am.

The exhibition is on till 26th March 10-4pm and there is an opportunity to make a postcard picture yourself to add to the wall during the exhibition.

Colours of the sea

 

 

 

I have been building up a folder of photographs of the sea. One of the things that has impressed me the most living by the sea now, are the varieties of colour found in the sea.

 

 

On sunny days the sea has colours that remind me of the Mediterraneam and Cornish waters. Other times there are subtle tones of blues, greens, greys and ochres. Then of course with the setting sun, reflectings of sunsets.

Last week the low sun cast an amazing molten silver colour over part of the sea. 

I hope to turn some of the images into other art works this year.

Photography and ready -made art work

I've been continuing with my records of journeys by public transport, and sunsets in the urban environment. Docklands still proves to have some fascinating contrasts of old industrial objects and new buildings. Reflections within reflections interest me, last week the reflections in water near Surrey Quays and reflections in the office building and in the Dockland Light Railway stations.

At home with an old TV remote control, I put a piece together called " All I ever learnt, I learnt from you."

The probable last exhibition for me this year is just coming to a close at the Pavillion in Mile End Park. As part of Photo Month, there has been an exhibition of work from over 60 photographers, in the park.
Funny having just finished an exhibition in one park I find myself in another park. As part of the deal, the photographers needed to invigilate on some days. Actually this was a good experience because it gave us an opportunity to meet other exhibitors, share ideas, etc.


I really liked the space, inside and out, but the gallery is again off the beaten path, with very little passing visitors and no sign posting from Mile End tube for instance, or outside the main gates.
Having gone done with flu I wasn't able to go to the print sale, but I'm looking out for opportunities to sell cards and prints before Christmas.
There have been some brilliant sunsets recently, here Walthamstow has been transformed by the pinks and purples of the sky.
