Pop up Market at the Old Kent Market

The Old Kent Market opened on Good Friday with a range of stalls and pop up market.
As part of Made in Margate, Ruth and I took one of the stalls in the pop up market.

Lovely old building, which was formerly a cinema, inside a London bus as a café, old red telephone box and murals inside and out.

Good mix of stalls and food and drink and opposite the Turner Contemporary Gallery.

It was a bit quieter than expected, due to the weather, gales and rain at time!

The Magic of Colour- Kent Seas and Sky exhibition open

 

 

My exhibition The Magic of Colour - Kent seas and Sky is open at Bernie's Chocolate Bar in Margate. 2-14 High Street Margate.  Bernie's site here  Facebook page. It's been good to see friends and enjoy Bernie's hot drinks while seeing the exhibition.

Ruth was fortunately able to hang the show with me, and I am pleased with the show, which has the brightly coloured seascapes along one of the main walls in the Chocolate Bar.

The title and paintings, The Magic of Colour, were about showing something vibrant and colourful for a grey and cold January exhibition. and also my own love of colour.  The exhibition is on till the 28th of January.

The exhibition is also an affordable one, with framed and unframed prints and cards for sale.
I am pleased that the local paper have printed something about the exhibition too.

The exhibition, The Magic of Colour, Kent Seas and Skies will be open from Saturday 2nd January from 2pm till January 28th, 2016.

As the title suggests I have been influenced by the amazing colours we get in the skies and seas here in Thanet, Kent.  A number of paintings will be on box canvases and I'll also include some framed prints of my work.

The show will be an affordable exhibition,  with cards and unframed prints too.  Let me know if you are coming to the exhibition and I'll try to meet you there. Great hot chocolates for a winter's day and the sea outside.

 

E17 Designers Market this week.

I have been busy getting work ready for the E17 Designers market on this Friday at the Asian Centre, 18a Orford road, E17 9LN May 13th 7-10pm. link to site and more info here The craft markets have a really good range of products and do showcase what skilled designers we have in the area. There is also live music, wine and soft drinks and goody bags to be won, so a good evening out if you can make it

I am taking my new individual collages as cards, I'm enjoying collecting all the material and making up the compositions, though the sorting of material for easy use is a bit daunting.


I'm also working on some larger collages as well, some of which will have more political comment in them
Part of my interest in collage has come from the political Agit Prop work from the 1930's onwards.
Today artist Peter Kennard carries on the tradition. Good article here about his work and his own website here.
Photographers working with a collage element also interest me, such as the recent work by John Stezaker at the Whitechapel gallery link to his work here. I have started a few photographic collage pieces over the years but haven't made up a body of work with them yet. I like both the digital and more hand made aspects of collage but my photoshop skills are not great at the moment.

The Elements Weekend Retreat

It seemed pretty apt in the end, holding a weekend arts retreat on the theme of the elements, with the weather being the way it is. Funnily enough we didn't have the bad weather that other parts of the country were suffering. We were able to do some walking meditation in the local park, experiencing the elements with only a dash of rain.
As usual, a great group of people really engaging with the material and experiences and some lovely work produced.



I have been busy trying to sort out prints of my work and producing a more typical card range, for a number of events coming up this summer. It's surprising how long it seems to have taken me. But hopefully I should see some results soon.
